How To Choose Your Flat Screen TV Wall Mount

With a flat screen TV wall mount you no longer have to deal with a big, clunky, heavy TV that takes up a whole corner of your living room.

A flat screen TV wall mount allows you to hang your TV wherever you’d like. It gives you the best TV viewing experience possible, as well as lots of options about where to put your TV. There are a few different types of flat screen TV wall mounts to choose from.

Low Profile Wall Mounts

Low profile mounts are the easiest to handle and like the name suggests, they are “low profile.” Installing a low profile mount is just like hanging a picture, and anybody can do it all by themselves. These mounts are not only easiest, but also cheapest.

The low profile mount puts your TV as little as 1 inch from the wall. The only downside is that it’s not adjustable once it’s mounted. You can’t swivel it or adjust the angle vertically.

Tilting Wall Mounts

For adjustability, you need a tilting wall mount. Once it’s been installed, a tilting wall mount allows you to adjust the angle vertically to get the best viewing possible. Most tilting mounts can be adjusted by hand, but some come with a small instrument for making adjustments.

These cost a little more than the low profile mounts, and it takes a little more work to get them mounted.

Full Motion Wall Mounts

These give you the most flexibility in viewing angles. You can adjust everything. Vertical and horizontal angles are fully adjustable. Full motion wall mounts take a bit more work to get installed and cost a little more. While the low profile mount can be installed easily by one person, full motion mounts take 2 or 3 people to install and it can be a bit of a job.

Ceiling Mounts

Another option is ceiling mounts. These are great for big rooms where you don’t have much wall to work with. They also offer great adjustability, with vertical angle adjustability and 90 degree swivel ability. As you might imagine, these take a bit more skill and work to get installed.

How To Choose A Flat Screen TV Mount

When choosing a mount, the most important thing is to take your TV into account. Some TVs, even though they’re flat screen, do not have a flat back. There may be a modular box that sticks out slightly from the back. If the back isn’t completely flat, this rules out the low profile option. You’ll have to get a tilting or full motion mount.

Also important is to consider how you want to watch your TV. Is angle adjustability something you need? Would a ceiling mount give you what you want out of your flat screen TV? Decide exactly what you want out of your TV viewing experience, and let that guide your flat screen TV wall mount decision.
